Sometimes you just can't win because your teammates insist on being really dumb. As long as you can put out enough damage before you die, you will still improve your Tier.

Also remember to use your jump jets for faster turns, especially when you are stuck in a brawl.

I'm making a tutorial for Uncle Jim who just got a shiny new Marauder Bounty Hunter! This is one of my favorite mechs and is the mech I used to get to Tier 1. This mech is great for pinpoint damage with the lasers and suppression fire with the LB10 Autocannon.
