LIVE: Aftermath of presidential candidate’s assassination in Ecuador from Quito

Live from Quito on Thursday, August 10, following the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio last night.

The politician and anti-corruption campaigner was shot following his address to young supporters at a high school in the capital.

The snap general election is scheduled for August 20, after outgoing President Guillermo Lasso dissolved the government while facing an impeachment process.

The presidential office confirmed that the date of the election will not be postponed.
