“Kū ka ʻaʻaliʻi i ka makani.” “The ‘a’ali’i tree stands in the wind.” This is an ancient proverb in which it expresses to people that you can survive the way and ʻaʻaliʻi tree does as it’s being whipped around by the wind. It symbolizes strength and unity as in a forest of all the ʻaʻaliʻi trees that stand together while the winds blow. Maui will recover and stand stronger than ever.
