In a new interview, Tucker Carlson sat down with former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund to discuss the events of January 6th, 2021.

Carlson, however, decided to interview Sund again, publishing the result on Twitter, ensuring that the American public could hear Sund's insights into the Jan. 6 protest at the U.S. Capitol.

Sund indicated that critical intelligence pertaining to possible threats ahead of the Jan. 6 protest was withheld from the Capitol Police.

The absence of such intelligence was cited by congressional sergeants at arms as a reason not to reinforce the Capitol in advance with the National Guard and federal assets.

Sund's comments raised questions about whether this was an intelligence failure or a deliberate setup.

Sund detailed the disparity between what was known by various U.S. intelligence agencies about possible threats and what was shared with the Capitol Police.

He stated that the intelligence his team received suggested that the protest would be like previous MAGA rallies, with "absolutely zero" indication of possible threats against Capitol Police officers, the Capitol, or members of Congress.

Sund also spoke about the restrictions placed on the National Guard, which hindered their ability to respond when assistance was needed.

He revealed that then-acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley had discussed locking down Washington, D.C., but Sund was not informed.

Sund's request to bring in federal assistance, namely the National Guard, was denied twice by then-House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving and then-Senate Sergeant at Arms Michael Stenger, who reported to Pelosi and McConnell, respectively.

Approval didn't come until over 71 minutes later, raising questions about the delay.

Carlson highlighted that Sund has previously characterized this as an "intelligence failure," but noted that a "failure is something that happens accidentally, and I don't see how this could be accidental."

He further speculated that certain agencies might have allowed chaos at the Capitol to serve their political purposes.

The revelations from these interviews have opened up new avenues for investigation and debate.
