Erroneous Lethal Targeting and Repairing Negative Assessments with American Forces #Ukraine

Pete A Turner illustrates what it's like when American forces decide someone is a threat. Or if they feel like they need to take action.

In this story, Will Hardy, a friend and former Marine is working with a Marine unit. The marines in the unit identify a man, we're calling Agajohn (which means, a man) as being a good target.

Will asks for time to assess the guy...Will quickly realizes that Agajohn is actually about to become a member of GIRoA the legitmiate, at the time, government of Afghanistan. He also was a key cog in providing assistance to displaced families in the region. The Marines perception of threat was completely wrong...Had they killed Agajohn, they'd have destablized the region, had no replacement for Agajohn's social role...and never even realized how badly they'd errored.

When Pete asked Will how often the Marines kill Agajohn? Will's response? 999 out of 1000 times. Only because I'd worked with this Marine before did I have the respect to look into the guy. ONly because I had the experience to know what to look for...and then the ability to recommend to no proceed with the targeting was Agajohn able to avoid being killed.

Most importantly. This will NOT be different in Ukraine. Whether it's lethal targeting or some other form of negative assessment, it's very unlikely that Ukrainians who are perceived negatively will be able to repair their image. #Shorts
