September 2021, NASA has not conducted any missions or activities that involve spending extended periods of time on the Sun. In fact, it is currently not possible for any spacecraft or human-made object to survive on the Sun due to its extremely high temperatures and intense radiation.
The Sun is a massive ball of hot plasma, and its surface temperature is around 5,500 degrees Celsius (9,932 degrees Fahrenheit). The outermost layer of the Sun, known as the corona, has even higher temperatures reaching millions of degrees Celsius. Any object or spacecraft that gets too close to the Sun would be subjected to these extreme conditions and would be quickly vaporized.
