Another attempt at a Colonial Fleet ship. It is a Small fast attack ship with four custom turrets to shred smaller targets. Corvettes are more sited for speed and fast attack rather than going blow for blow against other large grid ships. Its vulnerable underbelly is al the location of its main firepower, so keep the throttle all ahead flank speed! The Manticore Corvette has a limited interior but it is pressurized and has AI combat systems to hone your skills against. All of the small caliber turrets are on sub grids so they are prone to being disabled quickly and not easily repaired. The subgrids also cause the ship to drift and pitch when idle. Drop in a world and let it rip in to your foes to shreds. I load this ship in first and set to an enemy faction before relocating to at least 3km away and loading in another ship to be tested. When using multiple of these AI ships, it is easier to leave them as your faction and then set your singular test ship as an opposing faction so your wolf pack won’t try to destroy each other before you commence the exercise. I loved the way my massive ring station time-lapsed video record set work out for larger ships but I wanted something to capture the small grid crafts I frequently don’t bother to record. My first attempt at a set was a large enclosed space but it was too small for the large grid ships I wanted to build and I opted for the desert depot before I outgrew it. This Vehicle Assembly Bay is inspired by aircraft/automotive production lines and the vehicle assembly building at Kennedy Space Center. A lot of lessons learned thought the game were included in this build and I will dissect them separately to inspire others. I started this project back in June 2023 and still wanted to do more with it before this video. I completed a refit of another ship to the Terran Battlecrusier before I finished this one. One designed flowed into the other and the bit of interior designed I gained from the smaller ship helped the interior of this one. I was going to have an slow pan overhead as the ship laid waste to an onslaught of Zerg (Starcraft) and Arachnoid Starship Troopers and Space Engineers) forces but I stalled enough before this release. Time lapsed build of a new hydrogen thruster, single seat, fixed weapon, PCW missile capable fighter resembling the F-4 Phantom. While much of the design is superfluous, as in many Space Engineers grids, I am aiming for a good-looking, vanilla experience for a future scenario. I made several weaknesses in this aircraft. A single battery is an easy target to power down the craft. A single Tank supplies the Hydrogen Thrusters. I also set an even controller to monitor these blocks and then they get damaged enough, the Phantom just turns off. I want it to be a bit more immersive than a flying turret trying to hunt you down with only a Gyroscope and a Battery to its grid. Hopefully, this will be a bit more interesting than a single combat block and still be vanilla. Two Combat AI modes and little features to make combat more dynamic. The AI will react based upon conditions of the combat and we will see some prompts from that just to keep it interesting. Flashing lights in the Fighter Cockpit indicate the fighter has been target locked. I used subgrids sparingly because they do not like to be stable on impacts and odd accelerations. This was a going to be the escape ship from my first attempt at Europa Escape. However, lost footage made me do a whole new reshoot (it was for the better). This abandoned project was rebuilt as a test platform to combat new ships. It has no interior and comes set with the AI already active. Drop in a world and let it rip in to your ships. When using multiple of these AI ships it seems to be easier to leave them as your faction and then set your ship to be tested as an opposing faction so they don’t try to destroy each other before you can get control. It has a VERY limited line of fire which usually opens up on me when I fail to account for the slower turret movement. It has no interior and comes set with the AI already active. There was something about this odd ship that piqued my interest. The jagged angles and sleek lines scream fighter not freighter. Why not both? This ship has plenty of the first kind of cool (functionality) and the second kind of cool (aesthetics) at the cost of higher PCU. I like the shape of these kinds of ships from the StarCraft Terran Battlecruiser to the Star Wars Jedi Defender-Class Cruiser. This iteration of the form draws heavily from Star Citizen and is made for firepower and speed. This ship has plenty of the first kind of cool (functionality) and the second kind of cool (aesthetics) at the cost of higher PCU. The odd networking of conveyers and thrusters creates an internal dead space for thruster damage and a redundant conveyer loop. There is room for optimization; such is the iterative design process.
