Healthy Boundary Setting

When we are trying to get dogs to be open up in social, we want to do our best not to micromanage situations and allow the dogs to interact naturally. Dogs know how to communicate with each other better than humans do. As we observe dogs in a social setting, we want to only intervene if things are escalating in an unsafe manner or if dogs are displaying truly inappropriate behavior. Gordon came to us to work through some fear based reactivity. As we got him in social, we wanted to allow him a voice to set boundaries without making him feel like he did something wrong. Here you can see him give a healthy correction communicating that he didn’t like to be jumped on by the other dog. Allowing dogs to have this opportunity increases confidence around other dogs.

Towards the end, you can see Gordon becoming more comfortable with dogs being around him which would have never happened weeks ago. Very proud of this one; more videos to come on Gordon’s journey.
