2022 Lexus UX300e Review | The First All Electric Lexus

I've been lucky enough to spend this week with a 2022 Lexus UX300e, the first all-electric car from Lexus.

The Lexus UX300e has a claimed range of 196 miles and a 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds. Prices start at just over £42,000 for these cars with my Premium plus model clocking in just over the £46k mark.

Charging is via a standard type 2 connection or a Chademo which is capable of 50kwh charging using a suitable charger. The lack of a European standard CCS charging solution seems like an unusual decision for Lexus.

Whilst the interior is superbly made I have to say that the infotainment system and, in particular, the 7" screen is something of a miss. It just doesn't sit well in this car at all and seems best suited to a lesser brand (and an older model!). There's nothing here that a model year upgrade/facelift can't fix.

The Lexus UX300e is a very capable EV which is in a highly competitive category alongside the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Skoda Enyaq and the Polestar 2 to name just 3. Whilst it offers a refined drive and superb level of comfort it is lacking some standard equipment that would be available as standard in its rivals.

I've enjoyed my time with this car but see it as a bit of a missed opportunity in some ways, I really can't wait to see the next Lexus EV's that come to market as the signs are extremely positive. I will of course try to bring you reviews on new Lexus cars as soon as they become available to me.

In summary, the Lexus UX300e is a very capable EV that's comfortable to ride in and very easy to drive, it's just not the exceptional car that it could have been (and may become in future).
