Should you buy the Anbernic RG552? RK3399 CPU, 4GB Ram, 5.35" IPS display

In this video, we take a look at the newly released Anbernic RG552 handheld and go over the performance of this new handheld.

This is the newest generation of handhelds from Anbernic with a much larger form factor and they have introduced a new SoC to power the device. They are now using the Rockchip RK3399 chipset coupled with 4GB of ram. It also offers a dual boot option between Android 7.1 and a Linux-based Bacotera build. They also went with a large 5.36" IPS touch-screen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1152.

For this video, we focus our testing of the RG552 on the android side of the equation and I will revisit the Linux side in a future video.

In terms of gaming, we get excellent retro emulation for all our 8/16 and arcade games (Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, SNES, sega genesis or Megadrive, MAME, FBA etc..) but we actually get some really great performance with PS1 (PlayStation) and also solid gameplay with N64 emulation. Dreamcast emulation is also quite enjoyable on the RG552 too.

The device did struggle a bit with PSP emulation. You can absolutely play many PSP games emulated through the PPSSPP emulator, however more advanced titles like God of War: Chains of Olympus did not run well without some major concessions. Additionally, Gamecube emulation through dolphin was not something, at this time, that I would consider playable.
