Escaping Poverty Not Grounds For Asylum in U.S.

Refugee status or asylum in the United States may be granted to people who have been persecuted or fear they will be persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, and/or membership in a particular social group or political opinion.

Escaping poverty, unemployment, low wages, or having the desire to improve ones living situations are not grounds for asylum in the U.S.
