The Value of Unborn Life

A back and forth between Sen. John Cornyn and Berkeley Law Prof. Khiara Bridges took place when Cornyn questioned Bridges about systemic racism, the percentage of black babies aborted, and the value of unborn life, during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on abortion and the legal consequence of the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. Hawley also discusses with Heidi Matzke the fact that people are calling pregnancy care centers "fake" medical clinics.

John Cornyn: Do you think that a baby that is delivered alive has value?

Khiara Bridges: Yes.

John Cornyn: Do you think that a baby that is not yet born has value?

Khiara Bridges: I believe that a person with a capacity for pregnancy has value, they have intelligence, they have agency, they have dignity . . .

John Cornyn: No, I’m talking about the baby.

Khiara Bridges: I'm talking about the person with a capacity for pregnancy.

John Cornyn:You're not answering the question. I’m asking . . .

Khiara Bridges: I’m answering a more interesting question to me.

John Cornyn: Do you think the that a baby that is not yet born, let’s say the day before his mother delivers, do you think that baby has value?

Khiara Bridges: I think that the person with a capacity for pregnancy has value and they should have the ability to control what happens to their lives.

John Cornyn: I just note that you refuse to answer the question.
