Chinese Government Publicly Humiliates Violators of COVID Restrictions

Armed riot police in southern China paraded four people who violated COVID restrictions, publicly humiliating them. The individuals were forced to parade in hazmat suits and handcuffs carrying a sign with their name and photo through the streets of Jingxi, in the south of the country.

China had banned public shaming of criminal suspects in 2010 after decades of campaigning by human rights activists It appears that the practice has resurfaced as local governments struggle to enforce the national zero-Covid policy.
