THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT 1953 - BBC TV broadcast this Nigel Kneale Science Fiction thriller over 6 nights, each episode being broadcast live. It tells the story of the first crewed flight into space, supervised by Professor Bernard Quatermass of the British Experimental Rocket Group. The ship veers off course and returns to Earth with a deadly inhabitant. Only the first two episodes were recorded. The last 4 episodes are reconstructed from the script and still photographs that were archived. The program was a big success & subsequently a 1955 feature film was produced, The Creeping Unknown.
