The annual Perseid meteor shower has lit up night skies across the globe.

Amateur astronomers have camped out with their telescopes in the hopes of catching sight of a meteor or shooting star.

The phenomenon brings up to 100 meteors an hour as the Earth slams into debris left behind by comet 109P
