Why Railroad Workers May Go On Strike

Imagine being on call 24 hours a day, working 12-hour shifts up to 7 days a week.

These are the working conditions faced by BNSF rail workers, the largest freight railroad company in the U.S. Now under a new attendance policy, workers are allowed just one day off per month and can be penalized for doctor visits and sick days.

In response, 17,000 BNSF workers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. But a Trump appointed judge has barred workers from striking, ruling in favor of Warren Buffett’s railroad company.
