Dispatching a Sick Hen {GRAPHIC}

This morning we dispatched sweet Henny. You can see why, and how, in this video. And a brief (not full) necropsy on what happened.

I believe she had a blockage in her intestine (most likely from internal fat wrapping around her intestine), which caused the food to ferment inside her. Her feces looked exactly like fermented, unprocessed feed. This caused her to bloat, become ill, and not process her food efficiently.

It's important to do necropsies on animals that are ill or that have randomly died. This helps you keep your flock safe, ensures you haven't done anything wrong, and let's you know if there are any environment issues happening.

Thankfully, in this case, it was either bad genetics, causing fat build up instead which led to the bloat. Or it was a blockage issue.
