That the toilet smells mostly rather not so pleasant, is of course completely normal. But you can also do something about it and it's easier than you think. All you need is a bar of soap and a sock.

First, you should cut the sock so that you can get the soap into it and then tie a knot in the sock, which has a loop at the end. This is so you can hang this sock in your cistern.

Because every time you flush, the water from your cistern will be carried into the toilet. With the soap in the sock, you will always have a fresh toilet, because the soap slowly dissolves in the water, so with every flush you will always have some of the soap with you.
