Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a flagship scheme launched by the Government of India in 2015. The scheme has two components: PMAY-G (Gramin) for rural areas and PMAY-U (Urban) for urban areas.

Launch Date:
PMAY-U was launched on June 25, 2015, by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, while PMAY-G was launched on November 20, 2016, by the Ministry of Rural Development.

Features and Benefits:
1. Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS): PMAY provides a credit-linked subsidy scheme under which eligible beneficiaries can avail interest subsidies on home loans. The subsidy amount varies based on the income category, and it helps reduce the burden of loan repayment for the beneficiaries.

2. Affordable Housing for All: The primary objective of PMAY is to ensure that every eligible family in India has access to a pucca house by the year 2022. The scheme aims to construct 20 million affordable houses across the country.

3. Enhanced Budget Allocation: In the recent budget update, the outlay for PMAY was increased by 66% to over Rs. 79,000 crore, highlighting the government's commitment to providing affordable housing.

Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility criteria for PMAY vary based on the income category:
1. EWS and LIG: Individuals or families with an annual household income of up to Rs. 6 lakh fall under the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and LIG (Low-Income Group) categories.
2. MIG I and MIG II: Individuals or families with an annual household income between Rs. 6 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh fall under the MIG (Middle-Income Group) categories. MIG I includes those with an income of up to Rs. 12 lakh, while MIG II includes those with an income between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh.

Documents Required:
The documents required for PMAY application may include:
1. Aadhaar card or any other valid identification proof.
2. Proof of income, such as salary slips, income tax returns, or Form 16.
3. Address proof, such as Aadhaar card, voter ID, or utility bills.
