"The twisted "boy play" practice, especially prevalent in southern Afghanistan, has been more than tacitly tolerated by U.S. forces stationed in Afghanistan" (Chiaramonte, 2017). The first decision of the US army was to expel the soldiers whom many in the US public saw a heroes. The decision was later retracted for Sgt. Martland, after a public reaction and legal action.
