Odd Incidents Of "Bears" Stealing Children

In the last 200 years there have been plenty of reports describing bears taking children. A few of these incidents end with the child returning home and telling an incredible story. These reports seem to reveal a pattern of rather bizarre "bear" behavior. Do we not fully understand what bears are capable of? or did something anomalous happen to the individuals in these reports?
