5 Things That Keep the Fire of God

Importance of the Fire
God’s presence is like a fire (Heb 12v29) refiners fire (Mal 3v2) God answers by fire (1 Kings 18v24). The first time God appeared to a human in Scripture, He assumed the form of a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch (Gen 15v17). Burning bush, fire that doesn’t burn out (Ex 3v2).
God’s word is like a fire (Jer 23v29)
Holy Spirit is like a fire (Mt 3v11; Acts 2v3). In his first letter to the Thessalonians, Paul warns believers not to “quench the Holy Spirit” (1 Thess. 5v19 NASB). The word “quench” refers typically to extinguishing a fire.

What You Need to Know About the Fire:
1. Fire brings light.
2. Fire brings heat.
3. Fire brings purging.
4. Fire needs fuel.
5. Fire spreads.
6. Fire can die.
7. Fire produces smoke but smoke doesn’t produce fire.
8. Fire leaves ashes

1. Focus on Jesus’ love for you more than your love for Jesus.
Matthew 26:v3-34

When we focus on our love for Jesus more than His love for us:
We make empty promises instead of living in God's presence.
We live trying to earn God's love, instead of living out of God's love.
We live in emotions instead of devotion.
We have a passion that lacks compassion.

1 John 4v19

2. Wake up your prayer life.
Matthew 26v40; Luke 22v31-32

When our prayer life goes to sleep, our past life wakes up. Mark 14:32-34

3. Don’t follow the Holy Spirit at a distance by avoiding sacrifice. Matthew 26v58
It’s easier to sacrifice sin than to sacrifice yourself. Matthew 16v24-25

4. Avoid numbing yourself with the world’s flame. Mark 14v54; John 18v18

The world’s fire is attractive When we lose our affection for Jesus, the world becomes more attractive to us. The world’s fire is addictive and annihilating.

5. Repentance is the key to the restoration of fire.

Remorse makes things worse. 2 Corinthians 7v10
Restitution is making things right without getting right with Jesus. John 21v9
