Even Democrats Have Real Concerns About Biden’s Age: ‘It Is a Reality’

GEIST: “All right, let’s talk about some new polling that we’re just getting in about President Biden, showing his age is a significant concern for voters ahead of the 2024 election — including among Democrats, by the way. A new AP/NORC poll finds three quarters — more than three quarters of Americans think Biden, who is 80, is too old to serve another term, 77% of them. Donald Trump is just three years younger than Biden, but only 51% of Americans say he is too old to be effective in a second term."

SCIUTTO: “If there is no credible effort now for the possibility of an alternative Democratic candidate, should there be in your view?”

JONES: “Well, you know, that’s a tricky one. I think people are concerned about Joe Biden. They really are. I mean, Democrats, they talk behind their hand. Nobody wants to go on TV and say it because they all like to be able to go to barbecues and house parties. But people are concerned."

GEIST: "This is something that the White House, the Biden campaign, cannot avoid. It is a reality. It might be uncomfortable for some people to talk about. When you have private dinner parties, when you go out at the ice cream place in the summer, people do, even Democrats who like Joe Biden and plan to support him, they do have concerns about his age.”

WRIGHT: "We’re not talking about age here, we’re talking about attitude. We’re talking about his ability to perform. And what we’ve witnessed over the past couple of years is that there seem to be plenty of moments where we’re not really sure he’s sure about what’s happening in the scenario. So I think what we’re talking about is whether he’s mentally capable. There are 90-year-olds who are perfectly capable of running the White House, they still drive their cars, but in this instance I think we’ve witnessed enough to have some serious questions about whether or not another four years is going to work out for this country.”

TODD: “One way that you make it clear that age isn’t a factor with you is you’re pretty energetic, we see you travel the country. You show up, you do interviews. What do you — it is clearly an issue for many voters when it comes to President Biden. He’s a year younger than you. Do you have advice to him on how he should assuage those concerns in the public about his age?”

SANDERS: "I, you know, met with the president, I don’t know, five or six weeks ago. We had a great discussion. He seemed fine to me.
