If you have a coffee maker and use it regularly, you've probably descaled the machine a time or two, right? Depending on how often you use the machine and the hardness of the water in your region, you should decalcify it once every few weeks. Some coffee machines also tell you when they need to be descaled.

Of course, there are ready-made descalers or even descaling tabs, but they are quite expensive. We want to make the whole thing a little cheaper! There are also some people who use vinegar to descale their coffee maker or coffee machine. However, this is rather unpleasant, because the whole apartment then stinks of vinegar! It goes namely also much easier and more odorless and namely with citric acid.

I have here a capsule coffee machine, the whole works but of course on any other coffee machine or even on a fully automatic coffee machine! My water tank has a capacity of 800 ml. On 800 ml I give 2 teaspoons of the citric acid powder. Depending on how big your water tank is, you have to adjust the amount a bit. Stir well once and then let the coffee machine run halfway through with it. Then simply switch off and wait about 20 minutes. Because now the water with the citric acid is in all lines and can act here!

If the reaction time is then rum, you let the rest of the water run through once. Here you can see that a lot of dirt is rinsed out of the coffee machine, which has dissolved in the meantime thanks to the citric acid! After that, you should rinse the water tank of your coffee maker once well. And finally, fill it up twice with clean water and let it run through, so that the rest of the citric acid has been rinsed out of the coffee maker.

And you can use your coffee machine again and have successfully decalcified it once. You can then repeat this process once every few weeks!
