Shopify overview-15-creating a discount
Creating a discount on Shopify can incentivize customers to make a purchase, clear out old inventory, or celebrate specific occasions. Here’s how to set up a discount:
1. **Log into your Shopify Admin Panel**: Go to the Shopify website, log into your account, and you'll be directed to your admin panel/dashboard.
2. **Navigate to the "Discounts" Section**: On the left-hand sidebar, click on the “Discounts” option.
3. **Create a New Discount**: Once in the Discounts section, click on the "Create discount" button.
4. **Configure the Discount**:
- **Discount Code**: Here, you can assign a specific code for the discount (e.g., "SUMMERSALE"). This is what customers will enter at checkout.
- **Types of Discounts**:
* **Percentage**: Discount a specific percentage off the original price (e.g., 10% off).
* **Fixed Amount**: Deduct a specified amount from the original price (e.g., $5 off).
* **Buy X Get Y**: Offer promotions like "Buy One Get One Free" or "Buy Two Get One 50% off."
- **Applies to**: Determine if the discount applies to all products, specific collections, or specific products.
- **Minimum Requirements**: You can set a minimum purchase amount or minimum quantity of items for the discount to apply.
- **Usage Limits**: Set limits on the number of times the discount can be used in total or per customer.
5. **Set Active Dates**: Determine the start and end dates for the discount. It can be useful for limited-time offers.
6. **Customer Eligibility**: Decide if the discount will be available for all customers, only certain customers, or specific groups of customers.
7. **Channels and Apps**: Choose where the discount will be available—online store, point of sale, or specific apps.
8. **Review and Save**: Once you’ve configured all the settings for your discount, review the details to ensure accuracy. If everything looks good, click on the "Save" button.
9. **Promote**: After setting up your discount, share the code or promotion details with your customers through email marketing, social media, or other channels.
10. **Monitor Usage**: Regularly check the usage of the discount to see how effective it is and adjust your promotion strategy if necessary.
That's it! You've successfully created a discount on Shopify. Always keep in mind to ensure your discounts align with your business goals and don't severely undercut your margins.
