What Evangelicals are Missing Without Confession and Absolution as Part of their Worship Service

I grew up in evangelical churches and now attend a Lutheran church. When I mentioned to my fellow Lutheran church-goers that evangelical churches never do confession and absolution as a part of their service, some of them gasped audibly. How can it be that something considered so central to Christian worship services globally for twenty centuries is almost unheard of in American Evangelical Churches? And what are the consequences of this omission?
