Bhutan is known as "Druk Yul," or "Land of the Thunder Dragon". Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy with Vajrayana Buddhism as the state religion. Bhutan and neighboring Tibet experienced the spread of Buddhism which originated in the Indian subcontinent during the lifetime of Gautama Buddha.
