Do Christians come on the scene fully developed ... or is it a process? Actually, ... it is both. Salvation itself is an instantaneously completed thing (it is based upon what Jesus accomplished and "it is finished" - Jn 19:30) - but as far as being made like Christ (that end) ... well let's just say, that is an entirely different matter.
