Bishop Mpumlwana says they will engage with the City of Johannesburg on the buildings they have
After arriving at the Johannesburg fire scene to deliver a prayer service, Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana, the general secretary of the South African Council of Churches (SACC), said they would go back to the drawing board to reflect on what they had seen, and heard and have a say on what should be done. “Part of that action will include engaging with the municipality (CoJ) about the kind of audit on the properties they have and conditions under which people live,” he said. He mentioned Usindiso building was not the worst according to the other buildings that people live in. Mpumlwana said they will engage with other foreign organisations and reach an agreement on how to help their people. “We can talk to them about how they find their people living under these conditions,” he said.
