The natural area is located in the northwestern part of Ilfov county and the southeastern part of the village of Snagov, near the national road (DN1) Bucharest - Ploiești, with access to the reserve from the town of Ciolpani[2].

The nature reserve was declared a protected area by Law No. 5 of March 6, 2000 published in the Official Gazette of Romania No. 152 of April 12, 2000[3] (regarding the approval of the National Territorial Development Plan - Section III - protected areas) covers an area of ​​1470 hectares.

The natural area represents a (wooded) plain area with a protective role for several tree species, among which there are also specimens of beech (Fagus sylvatica), forest species that frequently grow in hilly areas.

The forest vegetation consists of trees and shrubs with species of oak (Quercus robur), linden (Tilia cordata), cherry (Quercus cerris), hazel (Corylus avellana), dogwood (Ligustrum vulgare), white buckthorn (Hippophaë rhamnoides L) or Elder (Sambucus L.).

At the level of the grasses, several floristic species are found, among them: lily of the valley (Lilium martagon), sedge (Genista tinctoria), autumn thistle (Colchicum autumnale), lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis), snowdrop (Galanthus L.) wild strawberries (Fragaria vesca), St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum), Poa pratensis, Lithospermum purpurocaeruleum, Corydalis pumila[4] or Anemone nemorosa

The commune is located in the east of the county, on the border with Ilfov county, on the right bank of the Argeș, where it receives the waters of the Neajlovu, which in turn receives the waters of the tributary Gurbanu on its territory. It is crossed by the national road DN5A, which connects Adunații-Copăceni (and DN5) to Hotarele (and DN41). Near Falaștoaca, this road intersects and begins a common route with the county road DJ411, which leads east in Călărași county to Radovanu and Chirnogi (where it ends in DN41); and to the west at Călugăreni (where it intersects with DN5), Singureni, Bulbucata, Iepuresti (where it intersects with DN6) and Clejani (where it ends in DN61). At Comana, the DJ603 county road branches off from DJ411, which leads west to Mihai Bravu, Călugăreni (where it intersects with DN5), Stoenești, Schitu (where it intersects with DN5B) and Ghimpați (where it ends in DN6). Also in the Falaștoaca area, DN5A intersects with the county road DJ412, which leads south to Prundu and north to Colibași and Vărăști.[6]

The Bucharest-Giurgiu railway also passes through the commune, on which it is served by Grădiștea and Comana stations and by the Vlad Țepeș passenger stop, but this railway has been impassable since 2005, when the bridge over Argeș from Grădiștea collapsed and was not rebuilt
