How to Bypass ATT ID Verify When Adding a Device

If you’ve tried to add a device to your ATT account online recently you may have made it all the way through checkout to end up getting a message talking about needing you to verify your Identity. WHAT?! Are you insane? Ok fine. Then, you actually go through the effort of scanning and uploading your ID only for your order to still get canceled.

So super frustrating. And let’s be honest you’re ordering online because you don’t want to wait in line or waste time going into a store for something that’s likely not on hand anyway. To be clear I am specifically talking about ATT, but this could apply to other providers as well as you will see later. Additionally, this also talking about devices that have mobile service, so like another phone an iPad or an apple watch.

Great so now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s look at a work around. What I have discovered is that you can go onto BestBuy.com, find the mobile version of the device you want and in the process of checking out, select your provider, this is what I was alluding to earlier that there are other providers to choose from, but in this case we are using ATT, after you select ATT you will go through the process and link it to your ATT account and this time you only have to go to a store once and pick up your new device in person.
