What we have here is a set of two 40-inch square fire blankets. They are made from heavy duty, weighty, and very strong fire retardant glass fibre material with each blanket housed in an individual bright red easy access storage bag with a hanging hook aperture. Although made from Fibre Glass the blankets are skin friendly and can be handled without issue, although to be on the safe side it would be best to do so no more than necessary.

Fire blankets have several advantages over foam in the kitchen, they leave no additional mess when used, they have a far longer five year shelf life, are easier and simpler to use - no need to read the instructions - they offer heat insulation and can be used for protection when leaving the fire location.

In the event of fire, the large red blanket holder should be easy to locate if wall mounted. Just pull on the two projecting black straps hanging down to extract the blanket and then use it to cover and smother the flames, if the fire is in a pan or container, try and make a seal around the edge. If clothing is on fire, wrap the victim in the blanket tightly to smother the flames. The blanket can also be used as protection when exiting a burning building as it is large enough to fully cover most of the upper body.

The blanket can be easily folded and returned to the storage bag after an incident or false alarm if the blanket is not badly marked. Of course, if it is scorched or damaged then a replacement should be obtained.

Priced at just $19 for two, this seems to me a no-brainer to add at least one to your kitchen, garage or anywhere that fire may break out.
