The proposal that would classify child sex trafficking as a "serious felony" in California cleared a key, yet secretive hurdle Friday, advancing it further into the process of becoming state law. The Assembly Appropriations Committee approved the measure during its "Suspense" hearing when hundreds of bills are either approved or blocked without public discussion. Classifying child sex trafficking as a serious felony under California law would make it a strikable offense, meaning repeat offenders or those who have committed other strikable offenses could face more time in prison.
