Sanctuary State of NJ Can't Take Displaced Migrants Says Dem Gov Murphy

Gov. Phil Murphy is reacting to the Biden administration’s proposed plan to relocate 60,000 migrants from New York to the Atlantic City International Airport.

Speaking on News 12 New Jersey’s “Ask Gov. Murphy” program on Thursday, the Democratic governor stated, “I don't see any scenario where we're going to be able to take in a program in Atlantic City or frankly elsewhere in the state. We are already seeing folks in New Jersey that have probably swelled into Jersey from New York City or from other locations, but you need scale, enormous amount of federal support - resources that go beyond anything that we can afford -- putting everything else aside.”

Several state lawmakers have also taken a stand against the proposal. Republican state Sen. Declan O’Scanlon, Republican Assemblywoman Victoria Flynn and Republican Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger issued a joint statement on Thursday.

That statement read in part, “The federal government and Biden administration has neglected its responsibility to deliver on its promises to formulate a solution, dragging countless state and local governments into a problem that is solely their responsibility to fix."

Atlantic City officials from both parties held a news conference on Friday to also oppose the proposal.
