TPLF leaders and their fellow diaspora politicians do not have that type of mindset a democratic right to protest as a human right. What they are after is the optics of blind support and flashy signposts of a fake opportunist mindset that do not help the people of Tigrai solve their existential humble needs.
To date, the government news blackout has prevented a complete picture of the events in Tigray from reaching the outside world. Those reports that have trickled out, from individuals who have witnessed the biting of the Tigray police have committed widespread human rights violations. When the dust begins to settle, the trickle of bad news is likely to become a flood, increasing pressure on the international community to rethink the diaspora its support for TPLF and to open an independent investigation into whether those forces have committed crime. The interim’s crisis of legitimacy potentially threatens TPLF's grip on power regardless of whether they respond with repression or reform.
TPLF has always boxed the question of internal conflicts into a quixotic policy framework of denial. Mentioning this problem is confronted with attacks and intimidation and in fact, nowadays are used as subterfuge to discredit and subdue the legal opposition or independent-minded critics. The problem is still there, despite denials. Innocent citizens are thrown into prisons for alleged support of external forces. How can a citizen overlook the fact IDPs are still roaring in some parts of the cities and the government claims they have pacified Tigrai when it is still under the occupation of Amhara and Eritrean forces? These conflicts continue to claim lives and scarce resources and continue to be among the contributory causes for the violations of rights and dignities of citizens. TPLF should carefully put its house in order, instead of the narrow party and personal interests of which Tegaru has seen enough.
