Those genetic researchers are actually working on creating some pretty cool hybrid human-animal, and they're doing it with a big goal in mind – helping out in the medical world! they're super excited about the possibilities these hybrids could bring to medicine. But truth is very much different.

As Elsa becomes emotionally attached to the hybrid creature, Dren, it demonstrates the power of control, obsession, and the yearning for parenthood. "Splice" also looks at the ramifications of scientific experimentation and the possibly disastrous results when boundaries are violated. Finally, it calls into question scientists' moral responsibilities in pushing the bounds of genetic engineering.
