"The Millenium - Christ's Rule on Earth"

Where are we on Gods calendar? Can we know?
What did Peter mean when he said this: “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (2 Pet 3:8)
Being that there are 7 days in the week, was Peter speaking of a 7000 yr plan for man? If so, how close are we to the millennial reign of Christ?
