The Gingerbread Man is a fairy tale about a gingerbread man who runs away from a childless old woman who bakes him. The story first appeared in print in the May 1875 issue of St. Nicholas. The gingerbread man outruns several farm workers, farm men, and farm animals before being eaten by a fox. The story involves a woman mixing flour, water, treacle, ginger, salt, and spice, rolling out the dough carefully, cutting out a gingerbread man, and giving him blueberries for his eyes, buttons, and icing for his mouth and clothes. The story has been adapted into various versions, including a short version by Richard Scarry.
