JAPANESE KAPPA & NOMMO AQUATIC EXTRATERRESTRIALS

The Kappa ("water child") is a creature said to inhabit ponds and rivers in Japan and appears to be both reptile and humanoid in appearance. According to legend, they are very cunning and like causing mischief and harm towards human. They are generally known as a threat towards humans, kidnapping children, drowning livestock, and assaulting women. Some are less violent, doing practical jokes and being quite friendly, teaching humans bone-setting and how to make medicinal salves.

They grow no larger than 5' tall, have blue/green scaly skin, a beak, a tortoise shell on its back, shaggy hair in a bowl cut, and speaks human languages. Kappa have a small bowl-like dent on top of their heads that holds a small pool of water called the ‘sara.’ This water is though to be the source of the Kappa’s magical powers. A Kappa must keep their sara full whenever they venture onto land or forfeit all their strength and magical powers. Without this water, a Kappa could possibly die.

The Nommo are ancestral spirits in Dogon religion and venerated by the Dogon people of Mali. "Nommos" means "to make one drink." Nommos are described as amphibious, hermaphroditic, fish-like creatures. Depictions of Nommos show creatures with humanoid upper torsos, legs/feet, and a fish-like lower torso and tail. Nommos are also referred to as "Masters of the Water", "the Monitors", and "the Teachers."
