Popes: Blessed Innocent XI #238, VRP Catholic Media. Series on the supreme pontiff, from St. Peter to John Paul II. While Louise XIV actually encouraged the Mohammedan infidels, Blessed Pope Innocent III worked hard to support King Sobieski and his allies in beating back the Turks. The Battle of Vienna was won by the Holy League, turning the tide on the Turks advancement into the heart of Europe. The pope still had to contend with Gallicanism and the hostility of Protestant states. Learn more about this pope beatified in 1956.
