Like a Dragon: Ishin! was initially released in 2014, and only available on PlayStation. In 2023 Sega and Ryu ga Gotoku released the remake for next-generation consoles, and for the first time made it available on Xbox.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! is different from other Yakuza games ("Yakuza" is how most of us know this series, the name for future games has officially been changed to "Like A Dragon")

Instead of martial arts, kicking and punching, you will be equipped with a sword and a gun - though you do still have a brawler fighting style. Learning how and WHEN to use the different fighting styles is the key to having fun in this game.

The fighting styles are responsive and brutal, and super fun to play.
Like all other Yakuza games, this game is so satisfying and rewarding to play. Sure, there are times when you have to grind for better gear or money, but the tasks and fights never feel like a job.

Ishin! is set in 1860s Japan during the Bakumatsu era at the end of the Edo period, and you will actually learn some history playing this. And this games is 100% Japanese. All the stories are about Japan, the focus of the game is Japan, even the voice acting is all Japanese.

I know some people don't like games that do not have an English voice-track option, but the Yakuza games are all worth playing, and reading the subtitles will become second nature. I don't know a series of any other games that are immersive as the Yakuza series, they are just the best games ever!

If you have a hard time getting into the Yakuza games, try playing Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Judgment, or Judgment 2 first with the English voice track to get into the culture of these awesome games.

Trust me, once you start playing Yakuza games, you will HAVE to play them all.

Ishin! is a MUST-PLAY game for all Yakuza fans. You will see all your favorites from past games; Kazuma Kiryu, Majima, Nishikiyama, Saejima, Mine, Haruka, Kuze, and more - of course all with different names.

Because of the return of so many awesome characters, I would suggest playing some of the other Yakuza games first. You don't have to, you could easily start with Ishin!, but you'll appreciate this game even more if you are already familiar with the series.
