2. **Persecution Under Diocletian and Maximian:** During the persecution, St. Januarius was subjected to various trials, including being cast into a burning furnace and having his joints and nerves displaced.

3. **The Role of the Faithful:** St. Januarius' constancy and the miracles that followed his trials led to numerous conversions to Christianity, even though the Roman authorities persecuted Christians.

4. **Transfer of Relics:** After their martyrdom, the relics of St. Januarius and his companions were transferred to various locations, including Beneventum and Monte Vergine, and eventually to the principal church in Naples.

5. **Miracles Continue:** St. Januarius' relics in Naples became renowned for miraculous events, including extinguishing eruptions of Mount Vesuvius.

6. **The Liquefaction of Blood:** A significant miracle associated with St. Januarius is the liquefaction of his blood, which occurs during specific periods of the year in the presence of the faithful.

O holy Martyrs, and thou especially, O Januarius, the leader no less by thy courage than by thy pontifical dignity, thy present glory increases our longing for Heaven; thy past combats animate us to fight the good fight; thy continual miracles confirm us in the faith. Praise and gratitude are therefore due to thee on this day of thy triumph; and we pay this our debt in the joy of our hearts.
