Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund testified on security failures related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol before the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight. Mr. Sund, who was chief when the attack happened, called the incident an “intelligence failure,” saying no intelligence agencies adequately warned him. He also said he requested support from the National Guard on January 3, but he was denied this by House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving and Senate Sergeant at Arms Michael Stenger, and that while the attack was happening, he made multiple requests to the Pentagon for the National Guard but was also denied due to “optics.”
