As consequence, Mystical theology of the Church was sidelined and Moral Theology took center stage. The Church remains the same.

Is it relevant for the church to be involved as a spiritual authority in our seeking to realize our Image and Likeness of God? Or is it a matter of the authority of the Holy Spirit?

Spiritual authority is irrelevant in Spirituality. In most scenarios during our spiritual journey, we must be prepared to reject any and all kinds of Spiritual Authority. Mind of a child is all the requirement necessary for the realization of our consciousness and spiritual enlightenment.
