Let's Re-Think Liberal Democracy in Africa!

A number of African countries have experienced coup d'etat over the last few years, the latest being the Republic of Gabon.

Against this backdrop, the former President of Nigeria suggested that there should be a re-think of western-style liberal democracy as it is practised in Africa.

When a system of governance is not delivering tangible benefits for the people, that system is no longer fit for purpose.

It means that Africans must develop alternatives that are suitable to the African environment.
