Pep Guardiola jokes he may play against Newcastle in Carabao Cup

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola joked he may end up playing in his side's Carabao Cup match at Newcastle on Wednesday (27th September).

City have been struck by a number of injuries, and in the UEFA Champions League against Red Star Belgrade last week were unable to fill the full quota of substitutes and had just six outfield players on the bench.

Bernardo Silva, too, left the pitch with an apparent injury in that game and is expected to miss several matches.

Added to that Rodri is now likely to be serving a ban after his red card against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League on Saturday (23rd September).

Asked about his selection problems, Guardiola said he was "not going to waste one percent of energy for (the) Carabao Cup", adding that "we're going to play with the guys who need it, maybe from the academy. Maybe if my back is getting better, maybe a few minutes so we'll see."

Guardiola also said he would not be in favour of appealing against Rodri's red card as the player "has to learn."
