There are several reasons why you have blood in your urine after you exercise. You could have an infection. If you’re a man, you could have an enlarged prostate. Or, blood in your urine could be a side effect of medication.

But one of the most common reasons why you have blood in your urine after you exercise is kidney stones. Kidney stones aren’t round and soft. They have jagged edges. You’re out there jogging, causing the stone to bounce around and tear up the inside of your kidney.

If a kidney stone is the reason, you want to avoid certain foods such as spinach, peanuts, almonds, tea, and chocolate. If you’re doing keto, it’s more likely to be a uric acid stone. If that’s the case, cut down on protein if you’re eating large amounts. If you're prone to kidney stones, drink more water. Potassium citrate is a good remedy, but the best one is hydroxy citrate. It prevents both oxalate stones and uric acid stones.

If you take hydroxy citrate, and avoid the foods I mentioned, you should be fine. But you may also want to find a different sport that doesn’t bounce you around as much as jogging does. If the stone keeps coming back, get it checked out.
