On September 15, 2023, the United Auto Workers (UAW) labor union went on strike at Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis plants, demanding pay increases, improved benefits, and an end to the tier system that gives newer workers less compensation for the same work than better-compensated workers with more seniority.

Workers and picket supporters at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan talked to me after a week on the picket line on September 21.
