Upon receiving reports of gunfire at the intersection of Saratoga Avenue NE and 14th Street, police discovered three individuals with gunshot wounds. Regrettably, two of them succumbed to their injuries on-site, while the third remained conscious and breathing. Two additional victims managed to transport themselves to a nearby hospital, with one now in stable condition and the other in critical condition.

Residents reported hearing approximately a hundred rounds fired from an automatic weapon, prompting law enforcement to search for three individuals in a gray SUV. A local journalist stated that these hundred shots were discharged across three distinct incidents occurring within a ten-minute span, likening the sounds to a battlefield.

According to the police, this incident was a result of an altercation between rival groups, commonly referred to as a "crew-on-crew" conflict, stemming from longstanding animosities.

Acting Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith remarked, "We are witnessing these senseless confrontations between rival groups, where firearms are used as a means of settling disputes rather than seeking resolution."

She further explained, "Our officers were in the vicinity, as they typically are. Unfortunately, the officer happened to be on a different block when this incident transpired."

This week, Washington, D.C. reached the grim milestone of 200 homicides for the year, following a shooting in Northwest D.C. that claimed the life of a teenager, and another fatal shooting in Southeast D.C. The first incident arose from a dispute between two factions, resulting in tragic consequences, while the second fatality was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of two vehicles engaged in gunfire.
