In the past, when people were first exploring space, they used animals like dogs, chimps, mice, cats, frogs, and more to test spacecraft. Sometimes, they didn't plan how these animals would come back to Earth.

Some of these animals made it back safely. Some didn't survive when they came back, and others were sent on spacecraft that we can't find anymore. So, it's possible that these animals are still out there, floating in old spacecraft that are stuck in orbit around Earth, and they will be there forever.
